Mary was from the center of Dublin and therefore the marriage probably took place there

Notes for CATHERINE HAYDEN:

Their house on Dalkey Ave. ( numbered 29,22 or 8 depending on the year you look ) had a water trough outside for passers bye to water their horses. Catherine ran a tearooms in the front of the house selling tea to travellers as they rested. We do not know if she started this or if the business was already there. The house was a workman's home for a workers in Dalkey Quarry excavating rock for the building of Dun Laoghaire Harbour in 18??.

The Hayden family homes may be Radan House or Maryville Ard Brugha Road ( Or Dalkey Hill )

Catherine's age of death of 64 on her Grave Details on the 23 Sept 1938 gives a birth date of 1874 however on the census of 31 march 1901 she was 38 giving a birth date of 1863.

Marriage Notes for WILLIAM DOYLE and CATHERINE HAYDEN:

Catherine's family did not approve of her marriage to William an older man with a family already. Perhaps this is why they married in Ballybrack and not Dalkey.

William's best man was a Peter Doyle. Catherine's bridesmaid was a Catherine Bourke.

Elizabeth , known as Lizzy , died 21/07/1986. Lizzy was sent to St. Joesph's orphanage Tiviolli Road Dun Laoghaire and when she left aged 12 or 13 she went into service in England. She moved from 8 Dalkey Ave to 8 St. Patrick Square in 1974 when the cottage was demolished. Her latter years were spent in 3 Corrig Road Dalkey where she was cared for by Margaret Doyle and family. Her baptismal sponsors are Ann Doyle& Thomas Curtis.

Notes for SYLVESTER DOYLE:

After returning home from the Boar war in about 1902 and before going to w.w. 1 in about 1914 he had a child with his step mother Catherine Doyle (nee Hayden). In 1970 he was the last of his siblings to die. He was employed as a 4 Man in the Quarry and a watchman for the gas company which he continued until a few weeks before his death.

His christening sponsors Peter & Mary Doyle on 09 November 1882. When Johns father remarried, to Catherine Hayden, and had more children there was not enough room in the house on Dalkey Ave. John and his sister Ellen and ??? moved to a house in St. Patrick's square in Dalkey. This started a period of 85 years of Doyle's living in the "Square" that ended in 2003 with the death of his daughter Maureen.
